When I turned up on Shirley’s door step I was unsure of what to expect, she had come highly recommended by a friend as a “results oriented reflexologist” with ultra calming and healing abilities. Not knowing that much about reflexology, I thought I’d book myself a session hoping for an extra soothing foot massage that I had been craving for ages plus whatever extra benefits came along with this therapy.
On arrival I was ushered into a lovely room set aside as the treatment area, pulled my socks off and jumped excitedly onto on the massage bed, covered myself with a warm cosy blanket and just soaked in the room’s lovely energy as I eagerly awaited my first reflexology experience!
Surprisingly, Shirley wasn’t offended by my poorly looking feet but took them very gently from under the blanket, into her hands and began to read my feet almost as if a palm reader was reading my hand.
She obviously didn’t discuss the future, but openly discussed my state of mind, past hurts and health issues as though she was flicking through my medical history file and maybe even peeping into my subconscious mind. She explained that her work was to restore balance to the body and bringing back a healthy state. Shirley also informed me that by working with the feet it is possible to heal past hurts and emotions that when suppressed for a lengthy period of time could lead to discomfort or future illness.
It has been documented that many years of suppressing emotions such as anger, resentment, fear and guilt can lead to serious illnesses such as cancer.
I was absolutely fascinated with Shirley’s interpretation of my own feet, including of course every lump and bump, with great precision. She kept telling me my feet were just speaking to her and that past memories that were stored in them were giving her lots of insight. As Shirley moved from one pressure point to another, I tried to maintain my “ouch!” to a muffled minimum.
Information just kept flowing and Shirley seemed to pick up on all sorts of experiences from eating too fast during meals, to past business disasters, stolen ideas, unsolved dental issues, broken friendships and matters of the heart. To my great content the treatment did end with a soothing foot massage.
An hour or so later, when the treatment was over, I was so relaxed I felt as if my body was welded into the massage bed and I didn’t want to budge an inch. I began to sense a great heat rising up from my ankles up to my knees. Shirley told me that was a good sign as this meant the healing was working. She also informed me that she had incorporated Reiki healing into the session and that the heat I was feeling was in fact healing energy.
Shirley is not only a gifted Reflexologist, but is also a Reiki Master and Aroma therapist all rolled into one, which is great as you can have various different treatments in one session. Shirley’s ladies only treatment room is based in Kensington and her prices beat any Central London Salon.
