As with individual karma, mass- karma has to be reflected upon. Scratch deep enough, and one would find that greed, fear etc, or in other words, lower ego, is the motivation.
So, expect more bad karma to be played out- and does not matter who the players are. We all need to become more conscious-we cannot afford to keep ourselves zoned out. More importantly, we need to be able to forgive, in order plant seeds of peace, not more conflict.
Personally, the way I deal with it is by becoming more aware of my own actions, especially how I behave towards others. I also send out love and healing, along with a group of friends where we all tune in at the same time each week, to the whole planet covering the globe with white light. Remember at all times that we are all connected, and one good action will affect the whole planet - same pool.
All parties and governments, which are in conflict, are not only hurting the other side, but themselves too. Terror and injustice are both same side of the same coin - as energy, one comes with the other. It often does not matter who started and why. This is an 'old' behavioural pattern that will play itself out until otherwise someone somewhere says "stop, let's listen and talk-no more violence, no more conflicts". The only question is -are we going to be around when this happens, and what steps are we, as spiritual individuals, taking towards change?
Christ in the Sermon on the Mount clearly told his followers:
"You have learned that they were told, "An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth." But what I tell you is this: Do not set yourself against the man who wrongs you. If someone slaps you on the right cheek, turn and offer him your left." He also said: "Love your enemies and pray for your prosecutors; only so can you be children of your heavenly Father, who makes his sun rise on good and bad alike, and sends the rain on the honest and the dishonest. If you love only those who love you, what reward can you expect? . You must therefore be all goodness, just as your heavenly Father is all good." [Matthew 5]
In the Quran [The Table Spread, 28] it is written: "Even if thou stretch out thy hand against me to kill me, I shall not stretch out my hand against thee to kill thee, lo! I fear Allah, the Lord of the Worlds."
The Dalai Lama is perhaps a living example of opting out creating more violence: ".All beings are equal to you in their wish to find happiness and their desire to overcome suffering. Recognizing this, you make a pledge to develop a good heart."
So, is the world (or humanity) more violent than it ever was? Not so! Perhaps, the only difference is, through technology and Internet, we can see and hear more news much faster than ever before. And, we are still as human race, working through our karma not fully aware of collective causes and effects.
In the words of Gustave Flaubert: "Our ignorance of history makes us libel our own times. People have always been like this". It's time to evolve.
The following may be of some relevance, since it demonstrates deaths from oppression and war in the 20th century. Nearly 200 million people died violently in the 20th century killed by the acts of governments and their apparatus of oppression and war. Injustices have been happening for a long time, and were committed by different people throughout history.

North Korea is the worst place in the world in 2004 in terms of deaths - although the AIDS extermination of Africans may rival it. See negotiation.biz.
