Can Religion Bring Me Closer To God?
By Khaled Bazzi

Khaled interprets dreams and has designed and developed his own divination cards. He had various powerful experiences and trained in shamanic journeying techniques, which have inspired him to write and share his thoughts with others.

Q: How much closer to God can religion bring you?

A: You cannot be closer to God than you are now.

Q: What is the point of religion, then?
A: While we could dissect that question endlessly, it will suffice to say that most religions nowadays put across the notion that they play a part in focusing the desire to transcend the human condition, and that their main aim is to free and save.

Q: Can religion help you attain enlightenment?
A: We are the fragments of the dream of the One which is already enlightened.

Q: Ok, but can the individual who imagines he's separate, glimpse the Truth that he is a fragment of a dream through religion?
A: Some have. Others might.  However, what is most needed to glimpse the Truth that there is just One, is a death of sorts.

Q: Do you mean death of the ego?
A: No, death of the personality.

Q: How does that happen?
A: By surrendering to the idea that probably everything you think you know about God, religion, spirituality, enlightenment and the rest is completely wrong.  That your beliefs are just that, beliefs.

Once you accept that, you might feel a strong sense of loss, but you create a vacuum within as a result.  It seems scary at first but that's where there is the opportunity for what is always there to be recognized.  To Re-cognize: to know again, for it is only to remember what you already are in this very moment, even as you ask these questions.

Q: So why does it seem so elusive if it is what I already am in this very moment?
A: Because it surrounds you and recreates you every second.  You can never feel its absence because nothing exists without it.  Breathing is an adequate analogy.

Q: So religion doesn't necessarily bring you closer to God...
A: You cannot be brought closer to where you are already.  Religions started out with a strong connection to spiritual truths.  That connection was lost along the way and what ensued was distortion of the original message.

Q: But if Spirit is so all knowing, why send messages to humanity which it knows will be distorted?
A: The messages are not 'sent' as such.  The truth of the Absolute is encoded in everything, so that while playing the game of separateness and individuality, Spirit can experience rediscovering itself.  These messages are interpreted from the perspective of the person who experienced that 'rediscovery', that contact with the absolute.

Q: So it is just about Spirit experiencing itself through different situations.

A: Exactly so.
