The Man from Autumn is a navigational chart for the private journey of Self, concealed in a psychological novel. My intention is to take the reader on a path that explores a non-linear world of meaningful coincidences and other mystical experiences, where joy is the rule and anguish an exception. The imagery this work can elicit, transforms a mundane existence of the known into portals of discovery that affirm love, health and longevity, as our inherent rights rescued from a dimension of fear.
When a parallel reality is introduced, it must offer a language to establish horizons for the bioinformational field it creates. This alternate reality known as the drift has portals of entry and rules of engagement that can be accessed only through a compressed perception of time and space. Within the chaotic archives of the drift, there is implicate wisdom that can be retrieved to understand the power of inclusive compassion, the biocultural aspects of psycho-spiritual conflicts and the covenant of safety for a concept of relationships I call Guardians of the Heart.
Although there is more than enough misery, violence and hopelessness in our modern world to last us an eternity, as stewards of our free will, we are masters of choice rather than victims of chance. The archetypal characters you will encounter in this novel within a novel may appear utopian to skeptical eyes. But they are mere reminders of the potential abundance that lives dormant in our doubting hearts. To entertain a dream, embraces the possibility of living it.
The format of a novel within a novel allowed me to weave a mystical connection between Enrique, the author, and his main character, Breogán, to explore the synchronistic aspects of our personal experiences. The novelist Enrique creates the protagonist Breogán: a mystic from Celtic Spain, who teaches the author how to enter the enigmatic drift.
Their surreal discourse delves into the nature of love and evil, the enduring elements of relationships, our fear of death, and the mysterious stigmata, where the mind wounds the body. From the legendary regions of Galician Spain and the Highlands of Scotland, to the hermetic world of the Vatican, the dominions of science and spirit are converged to argue the supremacy of courage and love over fear and evil.
In an incidental teaching style, this fictional work enters a mystical domain with empirical grounding, to avoid the popular illusion that complex problems have simplistic answers. The reader is gradually exposed to a psychological space where unexpected events unfold, to challenge our biological limits and expand our transcendental beliefs.
Although the magnitude of what happens to a priest in the novel within the novel could shake the foundation of Western theology and science, the Vatican’s decision to keep it a secret, reflects the complexity of disclosing truth to a skeptical world.
Just as love cannot be encompassed with words, there is no goal that can reach perfection. I believe our task, is to dance around beauty without disturbing its essence. In addition to entertaining, I believe a work of fiction should inspire readers to consider the possibility of making their dreams an obtainable reality.
Maybe if we learned more from art, the richness of creativity and the beauty of pondering could surface to renew our curiosity about this wonderful experience we call life. The Man from Autumn invites us to explore the miracle of living with joy, rather than lamenting what could not be helped. Only then, can we afford to face our transitions without fear, and the end of our journeys without greed.
