Keep Your Peace Today

There is a space, between all feelings and emotions, where peace is always alive and well.  It perhaps doesn't seem that way, when we get really mad or upset; in those instances, it feels as though the whole world is crumbling around us.

How empowering it can be to take a deep breath in moments of stress:

  • Take several slow deep breaths and imagine for a minute that everything is just fine.

  • In that moment, close your eyes and let your drama alone for a moment.  Actually let it go from your body, through breathing and relaxing.

  • Feel yourself surrendering it all, and let fresh new energy move into those places in your body where you were holding tension: your shoulders, your neck, your back, and your face, and anywhere else you feel it.

  • After that, imagine yourself floating away from the situation, and can now see it from a higher perspective.

What do you see?

What is the situation bringing up for you?

What are the feelings really about?

Allow answers to 'pop into' your mind.

Often you will gain a new perspective on the situation and will be able to deal with it differently. But sometimes you don't and that's ok too.

We can't always solve everything.  We live in a world where sometimes it seems there has to be an answer and a remedy for every single ill.  Not being able to 'fix it' can leave you feeling frustrated.

Acceptance can often be the best remedy of all.  'Let go and let God' is something we don't do enough.  It's not about giving up, but about surrendering.  When we do that, we take our egos out of the way and the persistent desire to control everything.

So coming back to peace, it is always there, in our hearts, whether we are aware of it or not.  And it is always available to us, no matter what the external world seems to be throwing at us.

It is an immense peace too, it sustains, nourishes, nurtures and replenishes like nothing else.  The great news is that you carry it with you always.  It is subtle and un-intrusive, however, that is why we often forget it's there.

People find that space through different means, some through meditation, some through prayer, or yoga and so on.  Best of all is if you can come up with your own method.  That way, you are not trying to live up to someone else's idea of what this peace should be about.

It might just be taking a moment here and there to stop thinking about what you need to do next.  At the beginning and end of your day, take a little bit of time for you, to reconnect with your own peace.  As you do this more often, you will strengthen your awareness of the fact that it is always there for you no matter what.

And as you finish reading these words, take a moment to close your eyes and let your thoughts float away, with no big ideas and no expectations.  Just allow yourself to be fully here now; you might be pleasantly surprised.
