Q: I recently had a profound, revelatory experience which has left me really inspired. I would like to read a lot more on spirituality and was wondering, what is a good starting point?  Is there an order in which I should go about it?

A: The best starting point would be to write a journal of the experience, and of any that follow. That way you not only have a record of near the time but also, you have a point of reference.

When it comes to reading, think of it this way: if you pick a lot of wild flowers in a field, it doesn't matter which order you pick them in, you still end up with a beautiful bouquet. That goes for learning too. As you read various ideas and theories on spirituality, see them as sparkles of a larger gem. All the ideas you reflect upon along the way will form a larger picture.

Always come back to the direct experience you had. No reading will ever hold greater power or truth for you than that.

Whatever you choose to read, go to it with an open mind and remember that no matter how popular the book, that is one person's view. Take your cue from others but remember to forge your own path. It's when you arrive at your own answers that you will feel the most satisfied with your discoveries.

If something doesn't ring true in your heart, put it down and come back to it at a later stage. If it still does nothing, leave it alone for good. Discernment in your choices of reading materials and teachings will prevent confusion and possibly even spare you unnecessary heartache.

Above all else, remember that the greater Truth of who you are isn't waiting for you in prose and verses; it's with you in every breath and every step of the way. Everything else is just a wonderful story, so remember to enjoy it and not to take it all too seriously!
