iPods For Life And work

Three news items caught my eye in UK newspapers this week:

Lifesavers

The NHS trust (www.Sussexambulance.NHS.uk) is offering free downloads of first-aid and resuscitation advise in MP3 format “for people with iPods and similar music players. It has even files, each lasting two to three minutes on, and 999 issues such as Burns and fits” says The Times (Thursday 20th April).

And NHS trust in Glasgow, has also started using the technology for its new recruits, report The Scotsman (March 30). “The iPods take them on a tour of the hospital and point out safety issues”.

  • At work: “fast-food chains in America make new employees wear iPod video players at work as part of their induction. The recruits watch video clips, while they work to show them what to do”, says Business Week (April 24).

Is there a teenager in the house?

Podcasting, and iPods are quickly becoming mainstream. Earlier in the year, PS Magazine reported that “university students in the United States are going less to lecture halls, preferring to download lectures' video podcasts directly to their iPods. So much so, that iTunes has released a special free version catering to university students called iTunes U.”

Have you got your MP3 player yet? Don’t fall behind, the technology is really easy to use, don't let the fancy tech words put you off. Simply ask a teenager to help- they’ll sort you out!
